I cannot give this 5 stars because of the extremely abusive Acts depicted here but yet I cannot give it three stars because I could not find any typographical or really grammatical errors in the book and the writing is a very simple straightforward style so you can follow the story easily...it's not really complicated. It's not quite a coming-of-age story and it's not quite an excess and downfall story, what it is... as the author says... his life as a sex tourist with many depraved and at times abusive acts that he justifies to himself as just all in good fun but we can see over time after he hits bottom after he sees that the girls that he loves are just mostly liars who take him for as much money as they can get... he is but a customer to them... he approaches the whole experience and the typical Western fashion that because he is paying the girl she becomes his girl when really he is just another in a long line of daily customers of the ladies that he is paying , but his journey through this jealousy is extremely realistic and familiar to many who do not really understand the whole situation of prostitution in Thailand.... it is sad that you cannot buy love in Thailand you can only rent it for a short time... you can easily see though how eventually he becomes more mature and is able to look past the manipulations that he brings upon himself because of his addiction... in fact freeing himself by hitting bottom and coming back from the brink of maxed out credit cards and loans and advances on his cash and all through is the very interesting Dynamic of the narcissistic personality of his friend John who initially controls Allen through jealousy... manipulation... vindictiveness and all the tactics but then Allen ultimately matures and escapes John's control and flies on his own to find what we hope is a final happiness.But there were many times that as a long-term expat resident of Thailand I found this book to be very offensive to the ladies of the trade in general who really want to have good customers that pay well that treat them as human beings who just want to get through their daily service work with a minimum of hassle. The most courageous part of this book is that it illustrates the author's character in ways that are painful to read and must have been embarrassing to write... there is a breathtaking straightforward honesty here that is quite unusual... i am sure there are readers who would be disgusted, appalled and shocked... even revolted at some of the content... while others would be stimulated by the taboo situations described. it's not that it is quality story but that it is well told. Easy read... not complicated. Sex acts... descriptions of Thailand 20 years ago. Nothing much has changed... except Aids is more prevalent... and the women generally less submissive and more expensive. overall it is what it says it is... the life of a sex tourist.It also serves as a sort of lessons learned about trying to come here to control girls that you rent, and the jealousy that the typical western or has and that just does not match what the reality of the Thai culture and the lives of these ladies. By the end John is defeated and Allen not really triumphant but much happier than when he started.But this book is extremely pornographic and if you removed the sex scenes from the book you'd be cutting out at least 250 pages of it over 300 Page work so it's like a men's Adventure the way romance novels are written but this one's written for Men about the life of a sex tourist in Thailand, in a no-holds-barred straightforward pornographic Penthouse forums Style interspersed with descriptions of the bars and the scenery and the girls and the relationships among the various characters of the story. Some of this book was interesting, but some of the author's actions were degrading and illegal. He mentions multiple times in the book about having sex with minors (under 18 years old). Note that the age of consent in Thailand for foreigners is 18 years old. If you are caught having sex with someone under 18 years old, you will end up in a horrible Thai jail for a long time!
